Program Description

This course will serve to enhance students professional development and prepare course participants for careers in the tech industry and Silicon Valley. This is an embedded Spring 2022 course with travel over spring break to network with employers and Purdue alumni in Silicon Valley.  Students will complete assignments to enhance their professional skills and have the benefit of hearing from several industry speakers to develop an understanding of how to successful compete for opportunities in the tech industry.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAM REQUIRES REGISTERING FOR A SPRING 2022 ON-CAMPUS COURSE (meet once per week) WITH TRAVEL DURING SPRING BREAK*

March 12- Group flight to San Francisco, Airport pick-up, Welcome dinner

March 13- Alcatraz Island tour and optional bike ride from Golden Gate Bridge to Susalito- Free evening to explore the area. 

March 14-18- Multiple company visits (at least 2 per day) such as:  Tesla, Google, Apple, Zoox, Jobi Aviation, OmniVis, SVBIG,  Networking events, panel discussions, and Purdue Alumni interactions. 

March 19- Muir Woods National Monument- ancient redwood forest- Free evening                      I

March 20- Group flight and return to Purdue campus

Academic Credit

This is a (1) credit spring 2022 course with embedded spring break travel.  Earn (1) credit for ENGR 10300.  You will need to speak to your academic advisor to see how it can be used in your plan of study. 

Eligibility

Open to all Engineering students, but preference will be given to 1st and 2nd year students.  Students on academic probation will not be considered.

Program Cost

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.

Estimated cost is approximately $2500.00 Cost includes:  Round Trip Group flight, airport transfers in California,  all hotels, breakfast daily, all ground transportation, all activities on the itinerary, Welcome dinner, academic credit, and health insurance.

Additional costs:  Meals, personal activities, and personal spending money.  Students will need to provide their own transportation to and from Chicago for flight. 

**There is no financial obligation to apply.  Students are not obligated financially until acceptance and a deposit is made later in Fall 2021**
