Program Description

This course will serve to enhance students professional development and prepare course participants for careers in the tech industry and Silicon Valley. This is an embedded Spring 2024 course with travel over spring break to network with employers and Purdue alumni in Silicon Valley. Students will complete assignments to enhance their professional skills and have the benefit of hearing from several industry speakers to develop an understanding of how to successful compete for opportunities in the tech industry.
*PLEASE NOTE THAT PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAM REQUIRES REGISTERING FOR A SPRING 2024 ON-CAMPUS COURSE (meet once per week virtually) WITH TRAVEL DURING SPRING BREAK*
March 9- Arrive in San Francisco, airport transfer to Marriott Hotel Fishermans Wharf
March 10- Alcatraz Island tour, Free evening to explore San Francisco, Welcome Dinner
March 11-15- Multiple company visits: The 2023 program included visits to: Tesla, Google, Apple, Intel, ASML, Jobi Aviation, visit with SVBIG (Silicon Valley Boiler Innovation Group) alumni. Company visits may change due to availabilty
March 16- Return to West Lafayette I

Academic Credit
This is a (1) credit spring 2024 course with embedded spring break travel. Earn (1) credit for ENGR 10300. You will need to speak to your academic advisor to see how it can be used in your plan of study.
Eligibility
Open to students in FYE or any Engineering/STEM related major. Students on academic probation will not be considered. GPA will be considered.
*STUDENTS WILL NEED TO SUBMIT A RESUME AS PART OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS.
*Please note that while Purdue is not requiring vaccination against COVID-19, many site visits, company visits, and tourist sites in California may require proof of vaccination or masking. Please be prepared and flexible as these requirements can change without notice.

Program Cost
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
Estimated cost is approximately $2,500: Airport pick-up upon arrival in CA, all hotels, breakfast daily, all ground transportation, all activities on the itinerary, Welcome and Farewell dinner, a few lunches, academic credit, and health insurance.

Additional costs: Air fare, meals (several are provided), personal activities, and personal spending money.
