Overview
Students applying for programs in Spain must have a valid, usable passport at the time of application. Passport must be valid for 6 months after the program end date.
Barcelona is both a cosmopolitan city and one rooted in ancient tradition, making it the ideal place to soak up Spanish language and culture. Spend the semester immersed in language learning at CIEE’s partner school, Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and taking area studies classes at CIEE Barcelona across a range of academic areas.

Eligibility
Students applying for programs in Spain must have a valid, usable passport at the time of application. Passport must be valid for 6 months after the program end date.
The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have at least reached junior standing by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity and a desire to experience another culture.

2.8 on a 4.0 scale

Students interested in completing courses while abroad from Purdue colleges or departments that are not listed above should discuss this with their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.
Academic Program
Students enroll in four classes per semester:
- One required UPF host institution Spanish language course (6 credits)
- Two CIEE elective courses or one CIEE elective course and an internship
- One UPF BaPIS elective course
Excursions
Due to COVID-19, excursions are subject to change.
The program will offer several excursions, which may be day or overnight trips. Please see the CIEE website for more details.
Housing
Study abroad students can choose to live in either Spanish homestays, in a student residencia (residence hall) with other Spanish and international students in individual rooms, or in a shared apartment typically in double or single rooms.
Estimated Program Costs
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location. This will vary by program. The Program and Housing Fees include: Tuition, on-site orientation, housing, and excursions. Depending on the housing choice, some meals might be included.
