Program Description

EPICS has partnered with the Lakota Tribe for five years and has taken small groups of students to Pine Ridge. The partnership is mainly facilitated through faculty, staff and students at the Oglala Lakota College (OLC) located on the Pine Ridge Reservation.  EPICS has developed and is continuing to develop projects for the reservation working with OLC.  This trip would expose a larger number of Purdue students to the culture of the Lakota and other Native American tribes and offer insights into the conditions on the reservations.  Students will learn about the culture and will participate in the design work focusing on implementation of the previous year's work and problem identification for the design work in the coming year.  It will also strengthen the partnership with Purdue and OLC through EPICS.

In addition to the project work, students will also visit:

- Oglala Lakota Campus and local greenhouse tour
- Wounded Knee
- Crazy Horse Monument, Mount Rushmore, Black Hills
