Program Description

The Purdue Young Institute for Advanced Manufacturing of Pharmaceuticals is engaging with the Irish National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Technology (NIBRT) to develop a joint program for workforce development and R&D for the life sciences manufacturing industry.  Ireland is well known for manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, and these two institutions have strong reputation and connections with industry, making them a natural fit for this program. 
Enjoy a mix of cultural activities, academic and company visits, and the beauty of Ireland. 

**Students participating MUST be able to leave campus by 3:00pm on March 8, 2024. 

Proposed Itinerary:

March 8:  Group departs from the PMU for group flight from Chicago O'Hare to Dublin

March 9:  9:00am arrival at Dublin airport, group transfer to hotel, evening Guinness visit, free evening

March 10: Full day of site-seeing including (subject to change due to availability) Kilmainham Goal, Irish Emigration Museum, welcome dinner with traditional Irish food and dancing

March 11: Full day visit to NIBRT.  After visit depart for Cork

March 12: Full day visit to Eli Lilly in Kinsale, after visit there is time to explore Kinsale, return to hotel

March 13: Full day of site-seeing, Ring of Kerry, Killarney National Park, Muckross, Torc Waterfall, and Ross Castle, drive to hotel near Westport

March 14: Visit to AbbVie in Westport, return to Dublin in the evening, free evening in Dublin

March 15: Merck Dunboyne visit, late afternoon visit to Trinity College and Book of Kells, Free evening in Dublin

March 16:  On your own in Dublin for a free day, Farewell Dinner in Temple Bar area

March 17: Morning is free, 11:30 depart for Dublin airport for 3:20pm group flight to Chicago, arrive 7:00pm, return to Purdue campus

 

 

 


Academic Credit

1 credit of ChE 49500.   Students must contact their academic advisor as to how this can be used their Plan of Study 

Eligibility

This program is open to students in Chemical Engineering, Industrial and Physical Pharmacy, Chemistry, and ABE (concentration in Pharmacy), and related majors.    Preference will be given to Juniors and Seniors, but Sophomores are welcome to apply and may be admitted on a case by case basis.

Program Cost

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.

Estimated cost is $4,000 which includes:  RT Airfare from Chicago to Dublin, airport transfers, all hotels, all ground transportation, breakfast daily, all activities listed on the itinerary, Welcome and Farewell meals, 2-3 lunches during company visits, academic credit, and international health insurance. 

Additional costs:  Meals not provided, passport, Visa (if necessary), and personal spending money and activities.   

Application Deadline

Students will be accepted on a rolling basis  until the program reaches capacity.  Maximum 20 spots are available
