Program Description

This is an intense 2-week theory+practice course for undergraduate studies in engineering, science, business, and related disciplines.  Join Civil Engineering Professor Samuel Labi on this exciting journey to the United Arab Emirates. Study the concepts of civil infrastructure life cycle (asssessment of infrastructure need, planning and financing, sustainable design, construction, and operations) 

**Please note that Civil Engineering students will receive the $1,000 Moh Scholarship**

Carry out visits to to project sites, production sites, research centers, and operations hubs of major infrastructure projects. 

Experience, understand, and appreciate UAE's unique blend of different cultures and fascinating hstory through cultural field trips and enhance intercultural understanding.  

This course includes formal lecture presentations and quizzes, video shows, a final project, jeopardy competitions, and lectures/presentations at various research and industrial sites by external speakers.

Academic Credit

Earn 3 credits for CE 49700.  Students must check with their academic advisor to see how this course can be used in their plan of study. 

Eligibility

Students in Engineering, Science, Business, and related disciplines- sophomores, juniors, and seniors are encouraged to apply.  Preference will be given to Civil Engineering students.  

**Please note there is a round-trip group flight from Chicago to Dubai.  There are NO deviations**

 

Program Cost

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.

The estimated cost of this program is $6,200 which includes:  Group round trip flight from Chicago to Dubai,  ground transportation in UAE, all housing, Breakfast daily, Welcome and Farewell meals,  all cultural excursions on the itinerary, three academic credits for CE 49700, and international health insurance. 

Additional expenses:  Transportation to and from Chicago O'Hare Airport, personal excursions, meals, personal spending money, passport, and Visa (may obtain on arrival)

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the program is full.  20 spots are open.
