Overview
Known as the business capital of Italy, Milan is the place to study abroad for Business Majors seeking to gain an international perspective. What better setting for your career in International Business to take off than the home of Italy’s stock exchange, the Borsa Italiana, and famous global companies like Giorgio Armani, Bugatti, and Pirelli?
IES provides one-of-a-kind courses that explore the world of business, as well as a wide variety of courses focusing on contemporary issues in Italy. All IES Abroad area studies courses are taught by experts in their fields and are conducted in English. There is also a guest lecture series by industry experts and an extensive list of course-related trips that help you learn more about the Italian business culture. Round out your study abroad education with a required Italian language course that is tailored to your skill level.
The IES Business Studies Program allows you to take courses in Business, Finance, Marketing, Economics, and Management taught by local faculty. Choose to enroll in a course at a local university—such as the AACSB- and EQUIS- accredited Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, one of the top business schools in the world—and learn about international business alongside Italian and international students.
A wide variety of other disciplines are offered, as well, so you can supplement your business studies with a course focused on liberal arts, psychology, communication, and more. You can also combine your coursework with an internship or community-based learning placement, where you will gain hands-on work experience that will stand out on your résumé. No matter which you choose, the experience will not only be valuable to your study abroad adventure, but to your career as well.

The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

Academic Program
You take 15-19 credits per semester. Language courses are taught in Italian, and all other courses are taught in English or Italian.
- IES Abroad Italian language course at your proficiency level (required, 4 or 6 credits)
- English-taught IES Abroad area studies courses (optional, 3 credits each)
- Business-related courses (in English or Italian) at local universities (optional, credits vary)
- English- or Italian-taught IES Abroad elective courses (optional, 3 credits each)
- Internship and seminar (optional, 3 credits)
- Community-based learning placement and seminar (optional, 3 credits)

Excursions
Excursions are subject to change.
Even though your adventure starts in Milan, IES field trips take you outside the city to discover the culture and traditions of your host country and beyond. You share a portion of the cost with IES Abroad. Possible destinations include: Sicily, Tuscany, an Alps Ski Trip, a Culture & Cuisine tour, Lombardy, Verona or Venice.
IES also arranges course-related field trips to complement your courses and turn the city into your classroom. You may visit a local company, visit a museum, go to a show or concert, or do a behind-the-scenes tour of a local business.
Housing
IES arranges housing for students on this program. You may choose from a homestay, shared apartments, or a residence hall. Some options may carry additional fees.

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location. This will vary by program.
