Overview
Ciao! Pack your bags and get ready to indulge in the culture of this modern city that is known for its world-class art, architecture, design, business and finance activities, and fashion. Absorb everything that Milan has to offer through IES Abroad Milan’s wide variety of courses, internships, and unforgettable cultural activities.
Milan will be your classroom. Only in Milan can you marvel at the grandeur of the Duomo, see the artistic detail of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper in person, find classical manuscripts at the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, and feel the pulse of this world fashion capital by strolling through the designers’ retail haven known as the quadrilatero della moda, Milan’s fashion district.
No matter what level of Italian you speak, we welcome you to study here, all while exploring and living immersed in the rich culture of Milan. You will be placed in an IES Abroad Italian language course that’s been designed for you based on your language level so you can make the most of your time in Italy.
The Italy Today Program also offers courses in liberal arts and social sciences, all of which address aspects of contemporary Italian society. Courses are taught by highly qualified, local experts in their fields. You will take courses at the IES study center and you have the opportunity to take up to two courses at a local university to experience Milan like an Italian student.
Add international work experience to your résumé while earning credit by participating in an internship or community-based learning placement and accompanying academic seminar. We work with a wide range of local and international organizations, and are always seeking new opportunities to find the best fit for your career goals.

Eligibility
The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

Academic Program
You take 15–19 credits per semester.
- IES Abroad Italian language course at your proficiency level (required, 4 or 6 credits)
- English-taught IES Abroad area studies courses (optional, 3 credits each)
- English- or Italian-taught IES Abroad elective courses (optional, 3 credits each, see page 6)
- Internship and seminar (optional, 3 credits)
- Community-based learning placement and seminar (optional, 3 credits)

Excursions
Excursions are subject to change.
Even though your adventure starts in Milan, IES field trips take you outside the city to discover the culture and traditions of your host country and beyond. You share a portion of the cost with IES Abroad.
Possible destinations include: Sicily, Tuscany, the Alps, Northern Italy Culture & Cuisine Tour, Secrets of Hidden Lombary Tour, Verona & Venice.
IES also arranges course-related trips to utilize the city as a classroom, you may find class takes place one day at a museum, consists of a visit to a local organization or business, or takes advantage of one of the many opportunities Milan has to offer!
Housing
Housing on this program is arranged by IES. Students may choose between homestay, shared apartments, or a residence hall. Some options may carry additional fees.

Estimated Program Costs
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location. This will vary by program. The Program Fee includes tuition and on-site orientation.
