Overview

Tec de Monterrey: iSummerMx Liberal Arts Programs

The iSummerMx Programs are an innovative, experiential learning academic option designed for International students who love traveling and learning about new cultures while visiting different Tec de Monterrey campuses in different cities, such as Mexico City, Puebla, Queretaro, Guadalajara, and/or Chiapas.

Students can choose from two different, 6-credit programs taught in English:

  1. Mexican Cultural Heritage and Social Challenges
  2. Beyond Borders

The programs are enriched with special activities such as field trips, site visits, and events that will make their experience unforgettable, creating everlasting memories, exercising their intellectual curiosity, and developing multicultural skills.

Eligibility

Tec de Monterrey: iSummerMx Liberal Arts Programs

The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

GPA Requirement: 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
Language Requirement: none

Students interested in completing courses while abroad from Purdue colleges or departments that are not listed above should discuss this with their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.


Academic Program

Mexican Cultural Heritage and Social ChallengesUnderstand, identify, and analyze aspects of Mexico's culture so that they integrate them into their cultural knowledge. Students travel to Mexico City, Guadalajara, Puebla, and Queretaro and take:

  • Cultural Heritage of Mexico
  • Violence, Dignity, and Social Justice

Beyond Borders:  Hear from experts in the field, academics, and members of international organizations, about the normative and migration phenomenon and the current cooperation projects in our region. Students travel to Mexico City, Queretaro, Puebla, and Chiapas and take:

  • Regional Scenarios in the Contemporary World
  • Gender, Society and Human Rights

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. 

Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location.  This will vary by program.

The Program and Housing Fees include: housing, most breakfasts, all on-site program-related transportation, and all program activities and events.
