Overview

ATTENTION: Starting in Spring 2028, UNSW will change their academic calendar. The spring semester will be from February to mid-June and the fall term will be from late July/early August to late November.

All courses will be complemented with activities and excursions organized by CIEE beyond the city to enhance your classroom learning and provide intercultural understanding.

Eligibility

The program is open to students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

GPA Requirement: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Language Requirement: none

Academic Program

CIEE students enroll in UNSW undergraduate courses offered during its tailored term: one course over the first four weeks, followed by three courses over the next 13 weeks. Students also have the opportunity to add the CIEE Intercultural Communication and Leadership elective course.

Please note that while CIEE offers the opportunity to take online coursework through ASU Online, Purdue students are not permitted to enroll in these options during the program and must take their coursework directly through CIEE and/or the local universities they partner with (where applicable).

Excursions

CIEE will offer a variety of activities and day trips to allow you to immerse yourself in Australia's culture and historical heritage.

Hike the spectacular Blue Mountains with experienced and informed guides ready to share the environmental and cultural history of the spectacular landscape.
Learn about the world's oldest civilization during one of our Aboriginal cultural tours.
Enjoy a day at the famous Manly beach and join a guided historical Q-station (Quarantine Station) tour in Sydney Harbour National Park and learn about the first Australian visitors' quarantine history and experience.
Visit Australia's capital - Canberra. Learn about Australia's parliamentary government while seeing world-class attractions and amazing architecture.
Go on a hike at one of Sydney's National Parks - Previous visits included: Wolli Creek Park, La Perouse Park, and Sydney Harbour National Park.
Visit one of our many museums. Previous visits included: Australian Museum, Art Gallery of NSW, and Contemporary Art Museum.
Learn about Sydney's beach lifestyle while enjoying an Aussie BBQ (Barbie). Previous visits included: Bondi Beach, Coogee Beach, and Shelly Beach.
Meet our local animals, including kangaroos and koalas, during one of our zoo visits. Previous visits included: Taronga Zoo, Wild Life Sydney Zoo, and Sydney Zoo.

Housing

Students in Sydney will live across a variety of housing locations, arranged for you by CIEE.

Housing options are mostly twin rooms with some single and triple rooms. Students will share a kitchen and other facilities with others. Housing locations are all in convenient locations to shops, cafes, and public transport within the city area.

Commute time may vary based on housing option, but students should be prepared for a commute from housing to classes that may be from 10 minutes to one hour.

Estimated Program Costs

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.

Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location. This will vary by program.

The Program and Housing Fees include: Tuition, on-site orientation, housing, and excursions.

Purdue University financial aid may be applied to the costs of studying abroad. Students interested in receiving financial aid should

direct financial aid inquiries to the Division of Financial Aid on the West Lafayette campus;
consult website Study Abroad Financial Aid Process ;
complete and submit the FAFSA by the appropriate deadline.

NOTE: Recipients of certain tuition remission and scholarship programs should pay careful attention to the regulations for using those benefits for study abroad. Ask your financial aid advisor about any limitations.

For full consideration, students must submit all supporting documents (typically an essay, 1-2 recommendations, and copy of passport) before or by the application deadline. Popular programs fill quickly, often before the deadline. To ensure a place in a program, apply early.
