Overview

Students applying for semester programs in Spain must have a valid, usable passport at the time of application. Passport must be valid for 12 months after the program end date.

ATTENTION:  CIEE will be providing an automatic Trailblazer travel grant toward airfare expenses of up to $1,500 to any Purdue student who participates in this fall 2024 program!

Seville is a welcoming city that will captivate you immediately. Enjoy its tranquility and wander the streets during the day, taking in the Guadalquivir River, followed by tapas and flamenco, the highest form of art and expression in Southern Spain. The cuisine of Seville is an art form in itself and boasts very special regional artisan dishes. And don’t forget about the city’s vibrant nightlife and incredible weather all year round.   

CIEE Seville is in the historic downtown neighborhood of “Santa Cruz”, very close to the University of Seville’s main campus. Study and make local friends in an 18th-century palace while enjoying a large variety of weekly cultural activities and events. No better way to improve your intercultural skills and abilities.

Eligibility

Students applying for semester programs in Spain must have a valid, usable passport at the time of application. Passport must be valid for 12 months after the program end date.  

The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

For students who want to take classes in Spanish at the Universidad de Sevilla, five semesters of college-level Spanish (or equivalent) are required. 

GPA Requirement: 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
Language Requirement: none

Students interested in completing courses while abroad from Purdue colleges or departments that are not listed above should discuss this with their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.


Academic Program

All students take four or five courses per semester, for a total of 12-15 semester credits.
Students are required to take at least one course at a host institution.

Students wanting to take classes in Spanish at the Universidad de Sevilla must have completed five semesters of college-level Spanish (or equivalent).

Excursions

  • Make lifelong friends with local Spanish students through weekly fun and engaging activities all around the city.
  • Explore beyond Seville and participate in overnights, day trips, and excursions to discover other Spanish cities in the region of Andalucía. Past destinations included Córdoba, Cádiz, Málaga, Jerez de la Frontera, Ronda, Aracena, and many others.
  • Try kayaking the Guadalquivir River at sunset or hiking in the Sierra Norte.
  • Become a Sevillano and see for yourself Seville’s social lifestyle while engaging with the local community. Seville’s lifestyle will make you fall in love with Spain’s traditions and customs.
  • Soak up Spanish culture through neighborhood visits to some of the most emblematic locations, such as Triana, Santa Cruz, etc. Get ready for the unexpected, you’ll love it!
  • Join a group that matches your interests – sports, environment, food, wine, etc. Groups include Spanish students and meet throughout the semester.
  • MEJOR EN ESPAÑOL (Better in Spanish): planned activities with Spaniards sharing tours, cultural activities, etc.

Housing

All housing is within a 30-minute commute to CIEE.  

Homestays: Live with a Spanish-speaking family, with or without another CIEE student, and immerse yourself in the city’s language and culture. Each student has an individual room. Three meals per day are included.

Residence Halls: Students usually live with a mix of CIEE students, local?students, and international students. Students live in studio apartments. Each studio apartment has two individual rooms and a shared bathroom and kitchen. Residence Halls have study rooms, meeting common spaces, TV rooms, a cinema room, laundry, a gym, a swimming pool, and many more services.

Estimated Program Costs

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. 

Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location.  This will vary by program.

The Program and Housing Fees include: Tuition, housing, excursions, and on-site orientation. Depending on the housing option selected, some or most meals may be included.

For full consideration, students must submit all supporting documents (typically an essay, transcripts, 1-2 recommendations, and copy of passport) before or by the application deadline.  Popular programs fill quickly, often before the deadline. To ensure a place in a program, apply early.
