Program Description

The Summer Study Abroad program in Colombia is a six-week program that takes place at the University of Caldas in the city of Manizales. Manizales is a university city located in the Andes Mountains, in the coffee-growing region of Colombia. Students may take up to 9 credit hours. Students take SPAN 301 Spanish Level IV, and they select either SPAN 498 Colombian Culture and Civilization or SPAN 498 Contemporary Art. An optional 3 credit service-learning opportunity is also available. Credits count toward the major and minor in Spanish, and courses are taught in Spanish by professors from the University of Caldas and Purdue. Students live with host families This is an excellent opportunity for Purdue students to improve their Spanish communication skills and learn about the customs and traditions of Latin American culture.

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
