Program Description

Purdue is strengthening its collaboration with IMEC (Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre), one of the most prestigious research institutes in the world, with over 5000 semiconductor staff working in Leuven. IMEC will open a satellite office in West Lafayette, Indiana, in partnership with Purdue. This trip will help students understand more about semiconductors, encourage them to take courses to graduate with a semiconductor concentration or certificate, and entice them to work for IMEC in West Lafayette. 

Itinerary

  • March 8, departure in the evening from Chicago,
  • March 9, land in Brussels, transfer to Leuven, free day
  • March 10, free day, explore Leuven
  • March 11-12, learn about semiconductors R&D and applications at imec, Leuven, Belgium; this is the world’s foremost semiconductor R&D center
  • March 12, visit KU Leuven, learn about their university semiconductor courses and talent development programs
  • March 13, learn about semiconductor industry equipment at ASML and university collaborations at Eindhoven University of Technology, Eindhoven, Netherlands
  • March 14, learn about semiconductor technology fundamentals at Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium
  • March 15, visit Brussels, Belgium
  • March 16, visit Antwerp, Netherlands
  • March 17, return to Chicago

Academic Credit

Earn 1 credit for ENGR 49600. Students must check with their academic advisors to see how this course can be used in their plans of study.

 

Eligibility

  • Open to freshmen, sophomores, Juniors, and seniors in Engineering, Science, PPI, and Business
  • Preference given to students who have taken STARS or Introduction to Semiconductors in 2023, or plan to enroll in these programs in 2024

 

Program Cost

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.

Estimated cost is $3950.00. This includes round-trip airfare, all housing, breakfast daily, a welcome and farewell dinner,  all ground transportation, all activities and excursions on the itinerary with entrance fees, one academic credit, and international health insurance. 

Additional Costs:  Passport, (Visa if necessary), meals, personal excursions, and personal spending money.
