Overview

Spend the semester living and learning in Ghana, a vibrant West African nation celebrated for its rich history, cultural diversity, and significant contributions to pan-Africanism. This program takes place in Legon, a suburb of the Ghanian city Accra, the ideal place to earn credits toward your degree while immersing yourself in Ghanaian culture.

Legon’s well-educated citizens welcome international students with open arms to their quiet suburban town, just northeast of the city center in the Accra Metropolis District. The sprawling University of Ghana campus is top ranked as the 1st in West Africa and 15th in Africa.

Eligibility

The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

GPA Requirement: 2.5 on a 4.0 scale

Academic Program

Students can take a mix of classes from the University of Ghana and CIEE as well as complete directed research, service-learning projects, and/or an internship.

Housing

CIEE Legon offers various housing options, which include homestays, off-campus hostel, and off-campus apartment-style housing. Housing options are located around the Legon campus, with convenient access to downtown Accra (roughly 45 minutes away) but are close to the CIEE Legon study center on campus (20 to 40 minutes away).

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
 
Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location.  This will vary by program.

Program fee includes: tuition, on-site orientation, advising support, and some cultural activities and excursions.

Depending on housing selection, some meals may be included.
