Program Description
There is an urgent need to develop the next generation of leaders to confront the health and safety risks posed by natural and man-made disasters. The growing frequency and magnitude of these disasters is altering landscapes, causing harm to human and animal health, prompting population relocation, and economic loss. Students will be introduced to systems, infrastructure, and professionals working to support critical infrastructure like drinking water systems and public health in the UK.

March 15- Arrive in London (students purchase their own flights) Make your way to the hotel for check-in.
March 16-Free day in London, Welcome dinner
March 17-Kickoff class 9am-12pm, lunch break, afternoon cultural activity (possibly Parliament tour), free evening
March 18-Class 9am-12pm, lunch break, afternoon tourist or cultural site in London, free evening
March 19-Morning industry tour, Afternoon lecture at local university, free evening
March 20-Morning class session with British drinking water inspectorate, Marcus Rink, Afternoon tour (Essex and Suffolk Water), Free evening
March 21-Morning cultural activity (John Snow Pump), Afternoon class session (City of London Government), Fun tourist activity, Farewell dinner
March 22-Free day in London
March 23-Everyone free to leave any time.
Academic Credit
Earn 3 credits for either CE 49700 or EEE 49500. Some classwork will be required before/after travel. All students must check with their academic advisor to see how this class can be used in their plan of study.
Eligibility
This program is open to all engineering students. All students must check with their academic advisor to see how this program can be used in their plan of study.
All students participating in a departmental program will complete a pre and post assessment as part of program completion.
Program Cost
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
Estimated cost is $3800 which includes: All hotels, in-country transportation, breakfast daily, Welcome and Farewell meals, all excursions and activities on the itinerary, 3 academic credits, and international health insurance.
Final cost will be set by October 15
Additional costs: Airfare, meals, Passport and travel documents, personal spending money and activities.
