Program Description

Join Professor Denny Yu in beautiful Innsbruck, Austria! This two-week short-term faculty-led program at MCI in Austria is designed for Purdue University undergraduate students, focusing on Medical Health Technologies and Entrepreneurship. It combines theoretical learning with practical experiences, including company visits and cultural insights, to provide a comprehensive understanding of these fields. Students will explore human factors applications in medical and sports technologies, learn advanced Human Factors Engineering techniques, and understand global and cultural impacts on design and entrepreneurship. The program also emphasizes applying course knowledge to federal and international human factors requirements, while fostering an entrepreneurial spirit and cultural awareness of Tyrolean culture and nature.

Program Goals
•Introduce the human factors applications in medical and sports technologies

•Apply the state-of-the-art Human Factors Engineering techniques (usability engineering, user-centered design, human subjects studies, big data)EArn

•Understand and identify global and cultural factors that impact designs and entrepreneurship, and

•Apply course knowledge in context of federal and international human factors requirements

Program includes class time, guest lectures, workshops, two company visits (TBD), and at least two cultural experiences. 

Students will be housed in a hotel within walking distance of MCI campus for daily class (weekends mostly free except for cultural activities)

Academic Credit

Earn 3 credits for IE 49000. Please check with your academic advisor to see how this can be used in your plan of study.

Eligibility

All engineering and related majors are welcome to apply.   Professor Yu will make acceptance decisions.  Email Prof. Yu if you are unsure about the course content. 

All students participating in a departmental program will complete a pre and post assessment as part of program completion.

Program Cost

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.

Estimated cost: $4250 which includes housing, local ground transportation, farewell lunch, cultural activities, 3 academic credits, and international health insurance.

Additional cost: RT airfare, passport, visa (if needed), meals, personal excursions and spending money.

Application Deadline

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the program is full. There are up to 20 spots available!
