Program Description
Join Prof. Brandon Chynoweth in beautiful Valencia, Spain for AAE 33300 Fluid Mechanics!
This study abroad offering of AAE 33300: Fluid Mechanics provides students with the same rigorous engineering curriculum offered on the Purdue University West Lafayette campus while incorporating the unique cultural and international experience of studying in Valencia, Spain. The course introduces the fundamental principles governing fluid motion, including conservation of mass, momentum, and energy; hydrostatics; viscous and inviscid flow; boundary layers; and aerodynamic forces. Students will apply these concepts to analyze and solve engineering problems relevant to aerospace and other fluid systems.
Through coursework conducted in an international environment, students will gain broader perspectives on engineering practice while experiencing the culture, history, and technological environment of Spain. The program maintains the academic standards, learning objectives, and credit equivalency of the main-campus AAE 33300 course while providing an immersive global learning experience.
Free evenings and weekends are free for exploration of the area.
Students will be housed in shared apartments (Purdue students only in apartments)
3-4 Cultural events will be scheduled during non-class hours (weekends remain free) Proposed activities are: Paella cooking class, Albufera visit with boat ride, Science Museum with exhibit from the European Space Agency, guided walking tour of the city (all subject to availability)

May 15-Students depart the USA
May 16- Arrive in Valencia, make your way to the housing, free evening for rest
May 17-Orientation, guided tour of Valencia, Welcome dinner at a traditional Spanish restaurant
May 18-21- Class 9am-12pm, lunch break, 1:00-3:00 Problem solving/recitation, free evening
May 22-23- Free weekend
May 24-28- Class 9am-12pm, lunch break, 1:00-3:00 Problem solving/recitation, free evening
May 29-30-Free weekend
May 31-June 4-Class 9am-12pm, lunch break, 1:00-3:00 Problem solving/recitation, free evening
June 5- Students free to leave any time. Housing check out will be approximately 10-11am
Academic Credit
Students will earn 3 credits for AAE 33300 Fluid Mechanics
This course is open to students with prerequisites of AAE 203 (grade of C- or better) AAE 251 co-req, MA 303 co-req completed prior to departure and with a passing grade.

Program Cost
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
Estimated cost is: $5,250 and $5,450. The cost will include: Housing, 3 academic credits, all cultural excursions and activities on the itinerary, transportation pass, welcome and farewell meal, and international health insurance.
Additional costs: Round-trip airfare, travel documents, meals, and personal travel and activities.
