Program Description

Join Dr. Nathan Schultheiss and Prof. Leon Robert for this exciting introduction to the oil and gas industry in Buenos Aires, Neuquén, and Iguazu, Argentina. The program is designed to connect classroom learning with real-world industry experience while helping students develop a broader perspective on the global energy landscape. Through visits to industry facilities, meetings with professionals, and exposure to Argentina’s growing energy sector, students will gain valuable insight into how oil and gas operations contribute to the country’s economy and the global energy outlook.

May 9- Students depart the USA

May 10- Arrive at Ezeiza aiport (EZE), Welcome lunch, transfer to apartments

May 11-Orientation, Historic downtown walking tour, free afternoon

May 12- Class 9am-12pm, lunch break, class 1pm-5pm, free evening

May 13-Class 9am-12pm, lunch break, class 1pm-5pm, free evening

May 14-Class 9am-12pm, lunch break, class 1pm-5pm, free evening

May 15- Class 9am-12pm, lunch break, class 1pm-5pm, free evening

May 16th- Free day

May 17th- Oil & Gas company visit, Free afternoon, Tango class

May 18th-Ministry of Energy visit, Teatro Colon Guided Tour, Free evening

May 19th- Argentine Culture Crash course with Mate tasting, La Boca Walking tour, free evening

May 20th- Transportation to Airport, Flight to Neuquen, Drive to Vaca Muerta, check into hotel, free evening

May 21-International Oil & Gas Company visit, Fracking operations tour and Q & A with Engineers, free evening

May 22, Shale Operations visit, group lunch, Gas Processing plant or pipeline infrastructure visit, free evening

May 23-Class 9am-12pm, lunch break, class 1pm-5pm, free evening

May 24-Meeting with Provincial Government, Environmental NGO or Community Organization visit, Free evening

May 25th- Transportation to Airport, Flight to Buenos Aires, check into hotel, free evening

May 26th- Class 9am-12pm- Empanadas Cooking class, Farewell dinner

Academic Credit

Students will earn 3 credist for ChE 49500.

All students must check with their academic advisor to see how this course can be used in their plan of study.

Eligibility

This course is open to all Engineering majors and related sciences with instructor approval. This course has no prerequisites, but Engineering math is recommended. 3.0 GPA will be used as a guideline, but the instructors will review academic records before making acceptance decisions. No students on Academic Notice will be considered.

Program Cost

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.

Estimated cost is $XXXX. Cost will include: Hotels, three academic credits, ground transportation in Argentina, breakfast daily, welcome and farewell meals, all activities and excursions on the itinerary, and international health insurance.

Additional costs: Airfare, meals not provided, personal activities, and travel documents.

Application Deadline

Students will be accepted on a rolling basis. 20 spots available.

Financial Aid

Purdue University financial aid may be applied to the costs of studying abroad. Students interested in receiving financial aid should

direct financial aid inquiries to the Division of Financial Aid on the West Lafayette campus;

complete and submit the FAFSA by the appropriate deadline.

NOTE: Recipients of certain tuition remission and scholarship programs should pay careful attention to the regulations for using those benefits for study abroad. Ask your financial aid advisor about any limitations.
