Overview

Program: This program is a direct exchange between Purdue University and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. It has been approved for the direct transfer of credits and grades by the College of Engineering and is open to students from that college only.

Institute: KIT was created on 1 October 2009, by the merger of the German Federal Research Center and the University of Karlsruhe.  The university, founded in 1825, is a world-renowned center of scientific teaching and research, which currently enrolls about 18,000, including around 3,500 international students. As of October 2006, the university was named one of three elite universities by the German government.

Location: The city of Karlsruhe is located in southwest Germany, approximately 45 miles northwest of Stuttgart and 100 miles south of Frankfurt.

Eligibility

The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

GPA Requirement: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Language Requirement: 4 Sem German

Along with the costs outlined below, students participating on exchange programs in Germany should expect to pay a semester contribution toward subsidized services at their host university.  These fees range from approximately €75 to €350 per semester and typically include a pass for regional public transportation.  See your study abroad advisor for more details.
