Overview

Program: This program is a direct exchange between Purdue University and Karlsruhe Insstitute of Technology. It has been approved for the direct transfer of credits and grades by the College of Engineering and is open to students from that college only.

Institute: KIT was created on 1 October 2009, by the merger of the German Federal Research Center and the University of Karlsruhe.  The university, founded in 1825, is a world-renowned center of scientific teaching and research, which currently enrolls about 18,000, including ca. 3,500 international students. As of October 2006, the university was named one of three elite universities by the German government.

Location: The city of Karlsruhe is located in southwest Germany, approximately 45 miles northwest of Stuttgart and 100 miles south of Frankfurt. Click here for more information about the city.

Eligibility

The program is open to Purdue students who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity and a desire to experience another culture.

GPA Requirement: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Language Requirement: 4 Sem German

If students complete courses while abroad from Purdue colleges that have not approved the program, they might be able to earn transfer credit for those courses. Students interested in pursuing transfer credit should discuss this with both their academic advisor and their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.
