Program Description
TECH 120 - Design Thinking in Technology in Germany & France
This 3-week program will offer a section of TECH 12000 abroad. Munich, Germany and Lyon, France will be the primary cities in order for the program to utilize two Polytechnic strategic partner university locations: Munich University of Applied Sciences and INSA Lyon.
The majority of students participating in this program will be incoming Freshmen for Fall 2027.
Students will engage in critical analysis of real-world problems and global challenges. They will demonstrate the ability to recognize opportunity and to take initiative in developing solutions applying the principles of human centered design. Students will be able to communicate effectively and to work well on teams. Problems and solutions will be examined from societal, cultural, and ethical perspectives. TECH 120 teaches the principles of human centered design and we will visit industries to highlight problem solving in real-time while comparing what impacts the problems in the U.S., Germany and France.

Eligibility
Incoming and current Purdue Polytechnic students of all majors are eligible to apply.
The majority of students participating in this program will be incoming Freshmen for Fall 2027.
GPA Requirement: Good Academic Standing on a 4.0 scale.
Language Requirement: None
NOTE for Incoming students: you must have accepted your Purdue admissions and created a career account to login and apply to this program.
Due to potential conflicts with visa restrictions, incoming international students cannot take part.
Program Cost
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
Estimated expenses for this experience are around: $4500 (Note: Purdue tuition will not be charged for this program)
Included in the program fee:
-Lodging in all cities
-Daily Breakfast
-Fifteen group meals through program
-Ground transportation in Germany and France
-Flight from Germany to France (only this flight)
-Entry fees to all activities on itinerary (museums, tours, visits, etc.)
NOT included in the program fee:
-Passport & visa costs
-Flight to Germany and flight to US from France
-Transport to US airports (NOTE: students can fly from airport of their choosing and will receive instructions on how to meet up with the group in Munich)
-Cost of remaining meals
-Spending money
Eligible students may qualify for a Giant Leaps scholarship.
