Overview
Learn among like-minded advocates and leaders in bustling Santiago, in the foothills of the majestic Andes Mountains. Explore a sophisticated city, emerging as a major economic and cultural center in Latin America, as you follow your passion by taking classes that interest you.
Designed so you can live like a Santiaguino, this program allows you to learn local customs from a carefully selected host family and learn alongside Chilean peers. Ideal for pre-law, political science, international relations, and business majors, with the freedom to choose classes from two of Latin America’s top universities: Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad de Chile. Some classes available in English.

Thinking ahead to life after college? Add a resume-enhancing internship or directed research for a great window into career possibilities, plus experience employers will value.
Communicating in the local language is key to cultural learning. That’s why you can also team up with a language partner for conversational practice and work with academic tutors throughout the semester.

Eligibility
The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

Academic Program
Take classes alongside local students at two local universities: the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad de Chile. To complement your learning, IFSA offers an exclusively-designed program course as well as a directed research project option.
To complement your learning, take IFSA elective classes specially designed to increase your language skills and facilitate engagement in the local community. These classes, taught in Spanish by local professors, are intended to provide you with an understanding of the events and issues that make Chile what it is today.
On this program a Spanish language class is required for students placing at intermediate Spanish levels on the pre-test, but optional for those placing in the advanced level.
Most classes are taught in Spanish, however students can take courses taught in English at the partner universities.
Internship opportunities are available. All internships include participation in the International Internship Seminar, which uses a blended learning framework with online and in-person components. Online modules provide structured opportunities to reflect on the practical experience of the in-person internship in Santiago and further develop the professional skills needed for a successful transition from undergraduate coursework into a career or graduate school.

Enjoy excursions and cultural activities to pull you into the community and encourage cultural connections. See IFSA website for examples of where you might go, including coastal cities Valparaíso & Viña del Mar, Islan Negra, market tours, and exploring the political context of Chile and it's history.
Housing
Housing is with a carefully selected host families, and the program fee includes three meals per day.
Estimated Program Costs
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location. This will vary by program.
Program fee includes tuition, orientation, academic advising services, excursions and day trips, insurance and support from IFSA staff (see the IFSA website for details).
Housing fee includes homestay housing with three meals per day and laundry services.
