Academic Program

With the Argentine Universities Program, build your own academic program with a combination of IFSA designed and Argentine university classes taken in Spanish alongside local degree-seeking students. You will select at least one IFSA-taught class and combine it with your choice of additional IFSA classes and direct-enroll classes at several local universities to meet your academic needs and goals.

IFSA classes are designed exclusively for IFSA participants. All IFSA classes are taught in Spanish and are worth 3 U.S. semester credits hours. Classes may vary by term based on faculty availability and student interest. These classes provide a deeper learning experience on a theme or topic unique to Argentina and Latin America and may include field trips where you will visit local cultural, commercial, NGO, and political organizations as critical hands-on learning experiences.

For more information on the types of courses available, click here and go to the academics tab.

Local University classes allow you to experience the Argentinian education system and give you a wide variety of courses to choose from.  You'll participate in these classes alongside local students as well as international students. You can mix and match courses at up to 3 local universities, though most students choose classes from one or two.

Excursions

IFSA Excursions are included in your total program fee and though these are optional, most students choose to participate. Excursions vary each term based on availability.

Typically, students participate in a long weekend trip as well as several day trips around the region as well as cultural activities throughout the semester.

See the IFSA website for examples, though exact excursions are subject to change.

Housing

Buenos Aires students can opt for a homestay with a local family or—for an additional fee—live in city apartments. Homestays provide opportunity for additional support and connection as you get to know your hosts.

If you are adventurous or independent, living in a shared apartment allows you to soak up local culture, practice Spanish language skills, and connect with porteños (city residents). Both options allow you to experience the lifestyle of this amazing city.
