Overview

CIEE-Barcelona: Business and Culture

Students applying for semester programs in Spain must have a valid, usable passport at the time of application. Passport must be valid for 6 months after the program end date.

Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, one of Spain's seventeen provinces. The distinctive history and language of this port city are the products of a continuous influx of different cultures. on courses.

The CIEE Study Center in Barcelona, Spain, is located in two adjoining historic buildings on Passatge Permanyer, near Passeig de Gràcia and Plaza Catalunya, Barcelona’s main square. This historic passageway provides a quiet haven in the city center and houses CIEE classrooms, a computer lab, and student lounges.

Eligibility

CIEE-Barcelona: Business and Culture

Students applying for programs in Spain must have a valid, usable passport at the time of application. Passport must be valid for 6 months after the program end date.

The program is open to any Purdue undergraduate student in good standing who has reached junior standing by the start of the program and who has completed at least three semesters of microeconomics, macroeconomics, finance, accounting, marketing, management, or statistics courses.

Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity and a desire to experience another culture.

GPA Requirement: 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
Language Requirement: 0-6 Sem Spanish

Direct Credit available from the following: [College of Liberal Arts] [Daniels School of Business]

Students interested in completing courses while abroad from Purdue colleges or departments that are not listed above should discuss this with their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.


Academic Program

Students are required to take 14-18 U.S. semester credits.
The Business + Culture program will be composed of four tracks:

    ESCI - Escola Superior de Comerç Internacional

    UVic - Universitat de Vic

    UAB - Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

    CIEE Only

Students need to choose one track and they can’t combine courses from different host institutions (ESCI, UVic, UAB).

Excursions

Excursions on this program may include:
  • Day trip to Montserrat, a Benedictine monastery retreat high atop one of the most spectacular mountain ranges in Catalunya
  • The Gràcia neighborhood, famous for its bohemian and artistic style and streets filled with color and culture
  • The oldest preserved garden, reflecting both Neoclassical and Romantic styles
  • Try popular traditional dishes like churros, patatas bravas, tortilla de patata, tapas, and pinchos
  • A flamenco show
  • Hike the Carretera de les Aigües for amazing views over the city

Housing

Study abroad students can choose to live in either Spanish homestays, in a student residencia (residence hall) with other Spanish and international students in individual rooms, or in a shared apartment typically in double or single rooms.

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
 
Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location.  This will vary by program.
The Program and Housing Fees include: Tuition, on-site orientation, housing, and excursions. Depending on the housing choice, some meals might be included.
