Overview
St Andrews is Scotland's first university and the third oldest in the English-speaking world, founded in 1413. Over six centuries it has established a reputation as one of Europe's leading and most distinctive centers for teaching and research.
The university is particularly well-known for its humanities curriculum, with the departments of art history, English literature and language, classics, religious studies, anthropology, politics and international studies, history and philosophy offering courses of note. It's not shabby in the sciences either. According to the Sunday Times, St Andrews is 'Firmly established as the leading multi-faculty alternative to Oxford and Cambridge.'

Academic Program
Language of Instruction: English
Semester Course Load: 60 University of St Andrews credits (15 Purdue credit hours) minimum
Admission to the Exchange program is by the academic department. Your degree program, background, and course choices are used to determine the most appropriate department of enrollment.
This exchange program is not for the faint of heart. This academically rigorous institution is intellectually demanding and requires an independent approach to course work. You have to be able to hold your own in a class with some of the best students in Scotland and the U.K. In addition, St Andrews students are expected to undertake their own unsupervised independent study. The course catalog gives an indication of the number of contact hours and the number of independent study hours for each course. The ethos of independent learning allows students to study topics in great depth and helps to develop analytical and problem-solving skills.
Housing
Students live in university residence halls.
Estimated Program Costs
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location. This will vary by program.

Application Deadlines
For full consideration, students must submit all supporting documents (typically an essay, transcripts, 1-2 recommendations, and copy of passport) before or by the application deadline. Popular programs fill quickly, often before the deadline. To ensure a place in a program, apply early.
As soon as a student submits an online application, a My Study Abroad account is created. Applicants should consult this page often to check on the status of the application.
IMPORTANT APPLICATION NOTE Applications are reviewed in the order that they are completed. Some programs are popular and can reach enrollment capacity before the stated deadline. Please take care to select a second choice program that you are genuinely interested in attending. You may not be approved for your first choice program and having a serious second choice avoids delays in approving your application for study abroad. If you are not approved for your first choice program you are automatically considered for your second choice program.
