Overview |
The University of Adelaide was established in 1874 and is the third oldest university in Australia. It is a modern, innovative university with many internationally renowned scholars and teachers. It is one of Australia's most prestigious research institutions. With 13,000 students, Adelaide is a medium-sized, broad-based institution. The university is situated within parklands in the heart of Adelaide city, adjacent to the central business district and main shopping area. Adelaide is an attractive, safe, and relatively inexpensive city in which to live. With a population of around one million, it has a cosmopolitan and Mediterranean style. It offers long stretches of white sandy beach, some of Australia's best wineries, hiking, mountain bike riding, and access to the spectacular outback wilderness areas. Both the city and the university are ideal for students seeking a socially and academically rewarding experience.
