Overview

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is one of Australia's great universities. Founded in 1949 with only 46 students, UNSW now has over 20,000 students on its three campuses - Kensington, St. George, and the College of Fine Arts in Sydney. UNSW has a reputation not only for innovative work in established disciplines, but also for introducing many new courses.
The main university campus is in Kensington, a suburb of Sydney about 20 minutes by bus from the main central railway station and 30 minutes from the harbor and ferry terminals. It is close to shopping areas, restaurants, beaches and parklands.
UNSW is a modern, urban university with extensive sporting and recreational activities to complement its reputation for scholarship and research. There are over one hundred clubs and societies on campus covering interests in the sporting, cultural, social, religious, hobby, and intellectual fields.
The University's host city, Sydney, is the largest, oldest, and perhaps the most beautifully situated city in Australia. It is the capital of the state of New South Wales. With a population of about four million, it is an exciting cosmopolitan center that offers tremendous opportunities for entertainment, shopping, and sightseeing.

Eligibility
The program is open to Purdue in-state students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity and a desire to experience another culture.
Due to the popularity of this exchange program and limited availability of exchange spots, non-resident students should apply instead to the CIEE-University of New South Wales program, which is academically the same but financially the better option.

Academic Program
On this program, students will take a total of 4 classes. Students will take one class during their first month on the program, and the remaining three classes for the remainder of the program. Students should note that a smaller variety of classes are available during the first month of the program (as this is UNSW's winter or summer term, followed by their full semester).

Students should note that semester 1 in Australia is our SPRING term, and Semester 2 in Australia is our FALL term.
Housing
Most students at UNSW live off campus. Live by the beach or in the beautiful suburbs surrounding the UNSW campus, such as Coogee, Clovelly, Maroubra and the iconic Bondi Beach. Sydney is a safe city, with public transport connecting the UNSW campuses, beaches, and city centre.
Sydney has several accommodation providers catering specially to students. These providers are located around Sydney – generally around 20-50 minutes by public transport from the UNSW campus. These options offer high-quality rooms with extra services and facilities. Options include Iglu, Scape, Switch and Unilodge. Students are responsible for arranging their own lease.
For on-campus housing, UNSW has a number of residential colleges - however acceptance to these housing options is competitive and is not guaranteed.
