Overview
Tower Bridge
An urban adventure awaits you in London, one of the largest and most fascinating cities in Europe that almost nine million people call home. Our program offers you hands-on education in this iconic city—think: the Shard, Buckingham Palace, and Camden Market.
The goal of our program is to help you explore contemporary London and gain a deeper knowledge of British culture, including the central importance of history to the British. Explore the global impact of Britain on Western culture, including art, literature, and financial and political systems.
London's international character is evident in every neighborhood, where people of different cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds live and work together. This diversity is remaking London, bringing a new energy to its business, arts, and sense of heritage.
Students can choose between two options:

Eligibility
Big Ben
The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.
For the Theater Studies program: One semester of university-level study in English literature or theater is required

Academic Program
IES offers unique courses that explore arts, literature, business, politics, and science, as well as other topics, through an in-depth and hands-on approach. Worldclass professors and course options at prestigious local universities enhance your academic experience and provide you with new perspectives each day in class.
You enroll in 15–19 credits per semester, and all courses are worth 3 credits unless otherwise specified. Academic programming is scheduled five days a week.
Most classes are taken at the IES Study Center in the central London neighborhood of Bloomsbury, although students can opt to take one class at a local British university to round-out their experience. Students can take one course at City, University of London or Queen Mary, University of London - scheduling permitting.
Internships are also available, for which you would earn 3 academic credits.
Excursions
Even though your adventure starts in London, IES field trips and course-related trips take you beyond the city to discover the culture and traditions of your host country. These trips are partially subsidized by IES Abroad.
Many of the IES London field trip destinations double as course-related trips for students enrolled in specific courses. For course-related trips that are required for a course, the cost for the trip is included in the program fee. For field study trips that are recommended but not required, you are responsible for a portion of the trip cost.
For those on the Theater Studies program, multiple theater visits with live performances and tours are incorporated into the program as fundamental supplements to classroom learning.

Housing
IES arranges your housing, and options include:
Apartment Style Residence Hall – You will share a flat with five other IES Abroad students in a residence hall. Your room is single occupancy with a bed, desk, storage, and bathroom. There is a shared kitchen available to you and your flat mates. Washing machines and dryers are available. No meals are provided for this housing option.
Residence Hall – You and another IES Abroad student will share a room with a private bathroom and kitchen. You will share bunk beds and wardrobes for clothes storage. Washing machines and dryers are available. No meals are provided for this housing option.

Estimated Program Costs
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location. This will vary by program.
Program Fee includes tuition and on-site orientation. Students who wish to volunteer or intern will need a prior entry clearance visa, and should budget approximately $600 for the visa.
