Overview

DIS-Copenhagen

Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, has a rich history influenced by more than 800 years of Danish settlement. Copenhagen is rare in that it combines the economic, scientific, and cultural life of a modern city with a relaxed, small town atmosphere.

Copenhagen is the seat of Danish Parliament, the central government, international, organizations, research libraries, national museums of art and history, and the national media. It is the center of musical and cultural life. Students may take advantage of the city's superior transportation system to get around town. Trains and buses run day and night.

DIS administrative and classroom buildings are located in the heart of Medieval Copenhagen. Facilities include but are not limited to a reference and student library, student lounges, computer labs, a student information desk, and student support services.

Summer is a special time in Scandinavia, where locals flock outside to enjoy the seemingly endless daylight and the numerous festivals and events. You can make yourself at home, swimming in the Copenhagen canals and joining in midsummer traditions.

Offering over 100 courses in a variety of disciplines to choose from, there is something for everyone in the summer at DIS! The classes will bring you outside the classroom with Field Studies—exploring the city, meeting experts, and gaining firsthand insights into your course topics.

Available disciplines may include: Anthropology, Arctic Studies, Architecture, Art History, Biology, Business, Child Development, Classics, Communication, Computer Science, Creative Writing, Criminology, Data Science, Design, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Science, Film, Finance, Geography, Geology, Global Health, Graphic Design, Health Science, History, Human Development, Human Rights, Industrial Design, Interior Architecture, Interior Design, International Relations, Journalism, Landscape Architecture, Management, Marketing, Media Studies, Neuroscience, Organizational Behavior, Philosophy, Photography, Political Science, Psychology, Public Policy, Public Relations, Sociology, Studio Art, Sustainability, Urban Design.

The DIS website breaks down the session options so you can determine which combination of sessions works best for you. Students may do both sessions in Copenhagen, or opt to do one session in Copenhagen and one session in Stockholm.

DIS offers an extensive list of course offerings, and students should review the planned course offerings before applying by visiting the DIS website and exploring the Course Finder. Some courses are only offered in specific sessions, while others may be offered in multiple sessions. There are space limitations in each class, so we encourage students to apply early for the best course availability.

Study Tour is included in all courses within Session 2, Architecture & Design Session, Furniture Design Sessions, and select courses in Labs, Research, & Practicums Session.

Housing

Your housing is a key part of your study abroad. As a DIS summer student, you’ll live in well-located, community-focused housing designed to foster independence and cultural immersion, helping you make the most of your time abroad. DIS housing is spread across various neighborhoods and suburbs, giving you an authentic local experience as you make the city your home.

Most students will share a room with fellow DIS students enrolled in the same summer session, arriving and departing together. In some residences, you might also have local students as flatmates, adding a unique cultural dimension to your experience.

For more information on housing, visit the DIS Housing page.
