This course will focus on the construction industry of Ireland.  Students will tour new construction and historic renovation sites in the cities of Dublin, Cork, Cobh, Bunratty (near Limerick), and Galway. Students will also attend lectures/presentations by Irish faculty (Technological University Dublin/National University of Ireland-Galway) and construction personnel to gain insight into the construction industry of Ireland. Cultural visits include the Guinness Brewery, GPO (site of the Irish Easter Uprising), Christ Church Cathedral, kissing the Blarney Stone, Cliffs of Moher, Cobh Heritage Museum, and the Aran Islands.

The 2024 Ireland Study Abroad course is co-led by Professor James L. Jenkins and Dr. Anthony Sparkling. The program leaders suggests that applicants read the study abroad summer handbook.

                     

 

Academic Credit

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will earn three credit hours (tech elective) as CM 49900 (register for SA 10910).

A series of course meetings will take place in March/April 2024 prior to trip departure (dates/times TBD).

Eligibility

The course is open to ALL MAJORS, but Purdue University students should have an interest in construction management or a closely-related field (with Program Leaders permission). 

 Enrollment is limited to TEN (10) Purdue University students! Please contact Professor Jenkins at jenkinjl@purdue.edu prior to submitting your application.

Note that all students may need to be fully vaccinated (and submit proof of vaccination) prior to travel to/from Ireland.

Program Cost

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.

 

 

Program Cost TBD January 2024—includes tuition, all hotel accommodations, some local transportation, bus tours, some meals, event tickets, group shirts, and trip insurance. 

The $500 deposit will be applied to your program fee.

Costs not included: plane fare ($700-$1,200), other meals ($500), trains/taxis,/bikes ($200), passport ($175).

NOTE: Students plane fare varies with departure & return airports.
