Overview
Students applying for programs in Spain must have a valid, usable passport at the time of application. Passport must be valid for 6 months after the program end date.
Take your Spanish language skills to the next level while studying economics and business management and/or gaining real-world work experience with an internship. Choose from coursework in English at CIEE Seville and our partner institutions, University of Seville and University of Pablo de Olavide (UPO). Business and Society courses are held at the University of Seville School of Economics and Business, just a quick walk from CIEE Seville, which is located in the heart of Seville, close to the Royal Alcazar palace.
Prior to starting classes, students take a two-week Spanish language course based on their appropriate skill level and agree to speak only Spanish to facilitate language and cultural acquisition. All courses are complemented with CIEE co-curricular activities and excursions beyond the city to enhance classroom learning and provide intercultural understanding.
Seville is the political, religious, cultural and intellectual capital of Andalucia. The city's cathedral and the royal Alcazar Palace, located in the historic city center, exhibit the influences of the Muslim, Jewish and Christian cultures that flourished in Seville until the late 15th century. Ferdinand and Isabella sent Columbus, Magellan and Vespucci to the new world from the banks of the Guadalquivir River.
Students can also gain practical work experience through internships. Eligibility for the internships is determined by the student's language ability, job skills, background and professional attitude. In the past students have been placed with organizations such as Xerox, DHL, AT&T, American Express and Vodaphone.

Academic Program
The Business and Society Program in Seville is designed for students with advanced Spanish language ability who want to understand Spain's economy and business management principles in the context of the European Union. Courses in business, economics, social sciences and the humanities are available.
Prior to departure for Seville, all students take a CIEE online placement exam. Results determine appropriate placement in language courses. Placement in many upper-level courses depends on a high score.
Students take five to six courses, for a total of 15-18 semester credits. All courses are taught in Spanish.
For more information on courses, please see the CIEE website.
Excursions
Due to COVID-19, excursions are subject to change.
The program will offer activities and several excursions, which may be day or overnight trips. These are subject to change, but here are a few things you might do:

- Socialize with Spanish peers while practicing what you’re learning in class with the Global Discussion initiative.
- Visit local Spanish companies with your business classes.
- Join in flamenco lessons, take a bike tour, participate in language exchanges with Spanish university students, practice new sports in the Guadalquivir river, and more, with new local friends. New activities are offered all the time throughout the semester.
- Get an insider’s view of iconic places like Parque de María Luisa, Plaza de España, Catedral de Sevilla, Archivo de Indias, Hospital de los Venerables Sacerdotes, and many more amazing locations spread all around the city.
- Participate in excursions to other Spanish cities in the region of Andalucía. In the past, students have travelled to cities such as Córdoba, Cádiz, Malaga, Jerez, etc.
- Explore and step back centuries in time with a tour of Roman ruins in Italica or the medieval city of Carmona.
Housing
Homestays: Most students choose to live with a Spanish family. Although homestays are generally limited to one student per household, we can usually accommodate requests to be placed with another student. Each student will have his/her own bedroom, and weekly cleaning, laundry and Wi-Fi are provided. Students usually walk or ride rented bikes but may also take public transportation. Average commute to classes is 20-30 minutes maximum. Three meals per day are provided by the host.
Residence halls: Students live with other Spanish and international students. Participants are placed in small studio apartments. Each studio apartment has two individual rooms and a shared bathroom and kitchen. Residence Halls have study rooms, meeting common spaces, tv rooms, cinema room, laundry, gym, swimming pool, and many more services. Meals are not provided. Students have access to the studio apartment kitchens.
