Overview
Palazzo Vecchio
Michelangelo, da Vinci, Galileo, and several other historical giants called Florence home during the Italian Renaissance, contributing to the city’s rich heritage and lasting global significance. Foodies, fashion enthusiasts, history buffs, art lovers, and those with a passion for language learning will feel at home living and studying here. Florence provides first class education in a variety of disciplines such as business, communication, fine arts, gender studies, as well as a wide range of courses in the humanities. You can also take advantage of the Italian language courses which are offered at all levels to help hone your language skills. Learn through hands-on experience in this historic city full of sprawling vineyards, impressive architecture, and exquisite art.
Although Italian language study is not required in order to qualify for this program, all Purdue students are encouraged to take an Italian language class while in Florence.

The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity and a desire to experience another culture.
Students interested in completing an internship should have completed at least two semesters of Italian. Some placement areas may require Italian proficiency.

Academic Program
Earn 12-16 credits while studying in Florence.
The program offers a variety of courses including various art classes (drawing, sculpture, oil painting, watercolor, photography), business, Italian language, history, art history, psychology, and more. While some business courses are offered, students should note that this program does not offer much in terms of core business classes and is more suitable for taking one or two business classes in addition to other classes.
For students choosing Study in Florence or Business & Marketing, you will pick one core class and then pick your remaining courses from the course list. For students doing Study + Intern, you will do an internship for 3 credits and pick the remainder of your courses from the course list. Please note the internship option carries an additional fee.
With the exception of Italian language classes, all courses are taught in English.

Excursions
Excursions are subject to change.
Full-day excursions to Siena, famous for its art, history, and Palio horse race, and to the walled town of San Gimignano, with its 14 medieval towers are included with the program. Social events include an arrival reception, a mid-term dinner and a farewell ceremony.
In addition, CEA CAPA-led events in the first weeks of the program include a walk up to Piazzale Michelangelo for stunning views over the city of Florence and a hike in the nearby hills, followed by dinner in one of the best pizzerias in town. Other activities, often self-guided, reflect what is on in the city at the time and may include a walking tour to the most important markets of Florence, tasting typical Italian snacks, a night at the Opera or attending soccer match at the Florence Stadium.
Housing
Students live in shared apartments that have basic cooking facilities or with a local host family (additional fee applies). If staying with a host family, breakfast and dinner are provided.
Estimated Program Costs
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location. This will vary by program. The program fee includes tuition for 12-18 credits, housing in shared apartments, on-site orientation, bus pass, emergency medical insurance, and cultural events & activities.
Students selecting to complete an internship will be charged an internship fee. Some housing options may have additional fees.
