Explore the “City of Science” when you study at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (also known as h_da). With numerous world-famous alumni, the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences is internationally known for its achievements and advancements in the fields of engineering and computer science. The student population is approximately 30,000 where students work with and learn from industry experts.

Darmstadt is located in the Frankfurt Metropolitan Region and is known as a hub for science and technology companies and universities. The European Space Operations Centre is headquartered in Darmstadt, as well as major chemical, pharmaceutical, information technology, biotechnology, and telecommunications companies.

The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

Academic Program

Language of Instruction: German & English

Semester Course Load: 30 ECTS

During the orientation program in your first month at h_da, you will participate in a mandatory intensive German language class. Once lectures start, you will have the opportunity to attend an extensive German class twice a week. 


Exchange students live in student residence halls near the university.

Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location.  This will vary by program.

Along with the costs outlined below, students participating on exchange programs in Germany should expect to pay a semester contribution toward subsidized services at their host university.  These fees range from approximately €75 to €350 per semester and typically include a pass for regional public transportation.  See your study abroad advisor for more details.
