Overview
London College of Fashion

London College of Fashion is the only college in the UK to specialize in fashion education, research and consultancy.  The philosophy of all courses is to offer creative development alongside a strong vocational slant.  The expertise of the highly experienced industry professionals ensures that students are kept aware of changing demands and opportunities within the fashion industry.

LCF is one of the six constituent colleges of the University of the Arts London, fully accredited by the UK Department for Education and Science.  Arts London is Europe's larget university for art, design, fashion, communication and the performing arts.  LCF is housed in six different sites.

Eligibility

London College of Fashion

The program is open to Purdue students who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. A previous coursework in retail management or apparel design is however necessary. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity and a desire to experience another culture. 

This program is open to retail and apparel design majors only.

GPA Requirement: 2.8 on a 4.0 scale

If students complete courses while abroad from Purdue colleges that have not approved the program, they might be able to earn transfer credit for those courses. Students interested in pursuing transfer credit should discuss this with both their academic advisor and their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.

Academic Program

Students choose one of the following 8-week tracks:

  • Intro to Fashion Business
  • Intro to Fashion Design 
  • Footwear Design

Prior to the 8-week track, there is also a 5-week Styling Summer School option.

Excursions

Included in the cost of the summer program is a five-day trip to Paris.  Students will explore this capital of culture, art, style and inspiration through participation in a variety of carefully planned activities, walks and visits. You will visit a selection of museums, galleries, food markets, flea markets, designer boutiques, department stores, typical shopping districts as well as major sights, including:

  • Tour Eiffel
  • L'Arc de Triomphe
  • St Chapelle Louvre
  • Montmartre
  • Moulin Rouge
  • Notre Dame
  • Musee d'Orsay
  • The Palais-Royal
  • Le Marais (old Jewish quarter)
  • Place des Vosges
  • Champs Elysees
  • Any major fashion/textiles exhibitions

Housing

Program participants will share a flat in the vicinity of LCF. Once students are approved for this program, they will work with a study abroad advisor to complete the housing application.

Estimated Program Costs

Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location.  This will vary by program.

PLEASE NOTE: The fees listed below are for the 5-week Styling Summer School. Participants will need to pay the program fee of £3,500 (approx. $4,275 USD) directly to London College of Fashion in British pounds. The Program Fee includes tuition and Paris Study Tour.

For the 8-week summer programs (Fashion Business, Footwear Design, or Fashion Design), participants will need to pay the program fee of £5,000 (approx. $6,108 USD) directly to London College of Fashion in British pounds. The Program Fee includes tuition and Paris Study Tour. The accommodation fee for the 8 weeks is £2,800. Students will be eligible for the $2,000 Purdue Moves Study Abroad Scholarship.

Because payment will be made in British pounds, the dollar figures listed are only an estimate; the final amount may be more or less depending on the exchange rate at the time the payment is made.
