Vienna, once the capital of the powerful Hapsburg Empire, is now the capital of Austria. While the power structure has undergone great change, the city itself has retained much of the charm of the pre-World War I era. Program Highlights:

Eligibility | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The program is open to all undergraduate students. Any university student is eligible if s/he has reached at least sophomore standing (completed 2 semesters of college) by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture. Language Requirement: none |

Academic Program | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
IES offers unique courses that explore Austrian History, Culture, Art, Business, Psychology and many other topics through an in-depth and hands-on approach. Our world-class professors, as well as course options at the prestigious Universität Wien, enhance your academic experience and provide you with new perspectives both in and out of class. You take 16–19 credits per semester, and all courses are worth 3 credits unless otherwise specified. Language courses are taught in German, and all other courses are taught in English, unless otherwise noted. Academic programming is scheduled five days a week. Excursions | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The program includes a program-related trip, which is typically around 4 days. There are three trip options, and the one you go on is determined by the academic track you choose. In addition, IES field trips take you to other great cities in Austria and beyond to provide contrast and context for what you are learning in Vienna. These trips are partially subsidized by IES Abroad. IES Abroad Vienna also organizes course-related trips that complement IES Abroad courses and help you build your general knowledge of Austrian culture and society. IES will arrange housing for you, and you can choose from the following options (please note some options carry an additional cost):
In all options, you have full access to kitchen facilities for preparing meals, which are not included in the program fee. All housing options include free Internet access. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location. This will vary by program. Costs listed are based on enrollment in the European Society & Culture track. Different tracks or add-on options within tracks may carry additional fees, please see IES website for additional details. Program Fee includes tuition, field trips, and on-site orientation. Housing Fee includes the standard housing option. Some housing options will carry additional fees. Costs for this program are estimated and subject to change. Application Deadlines | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
For full consideration, students must submit all supporting documents before or by the application deadline. Popular programs fill quickly, often before the deadline. To insure a place in a program, apply early. As soon as a student submits an online application, a My Study Abroad account is created. Applicants should consult this page often to check on the status of the application. Following payment of the deposit, the student will be given the IES application to complete. The Study Abroad Office will send the application to IES, along with the applicant's transcript, letters of recommendation, and essay from the study abroad application. The student will then be notified directly by IES upon acceptance into the program.
