Munich University of Applied Sciences - Summer Engineering for Sustainability

 The Munich University of Applied Sciences is the largest university of its kind in Bavaria and the second largest university of applied sciences in Germany.  The university offers a unique study experience, characterized by a practical approach to teaching and research and close contacts to business and industry.  All professors have a minimum of five years' professional experience in their respective fields and know-how to prepare students for successful careers. The school’s location in a leading European city affords fantastic academic, cultural and professional opportunities for students. 

Munich University of Applied Sciences, California Polytechnic State University and the Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship are the institutions behind this very exciting international summer study abroad program that offers a unique and interesting take on the integration of diverse fields as automotive and electrical engineering, management and entrepreneurship.

Munich University of Applied Sciences offers a five-week summer program designed for junior and senior Technology and Engineering students.  Participants gain the following skills:

  • Completion of 6 credit hours
  • Laboratory experiments and simulations
  • Field trips to research centers
  • German language and culture instruction

Eligibility

Munich University of Applied Sciences - Summer Engineering for Sustainability

Applicants must be juniors or seniors majoring in Technology or Engineering.

 

GPA Requirement: 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
Language Requirement: none

Students interested in completing courses while abroad from Purdue colleges or departments that are not listed above should discuss this with their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.


Academic Program

Program participants complete an intensive German language and culture course in the first week and continue this instruction part-time during the remaining four weeks of the program. 

Students will take two content courses.  Three of the courses are offered in the morning and the other three in the afternoon.  The MUAS website publishes the schedule each summer.

On successful completion of the program, participants will earn 3 credits of a technical elective and 3 credits of a free elective.  Applicants should discuss the transfer of credits from this program with their academic advisor.


Excursions

Excursions to historic sites (Herrenchiemsee, White Rose Memorial, Dachau) will be organized in conjunction with the German language and culture course. 

Visits to the BMW factory and the BMW Museum are also included in the program.


Housing

Students choose to live in a youth hostel or shared apartment.  Accommodation information will be sent to students once they've been admitted to the program.

Breakfast is included in all housing assignments, lunch is available at the university cafeterias, and dinner can be taken at nearby restaurants or prepared in the residence kitchens.

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. 

Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location.  This will vary by program.

The program fee listed below includes tuition, excursions and internet access at the university. 

Housing costs will need to paid directly to the hostel or apartment manager.
