TRAVEL TO IRELAND in SUMMER 2023

  •

June 2024 (tentative dates May 29th - June 15th, 2024): Take a 3-credit elective course taught by a professor from Univeristy College Dublin (UCD). The course, Health: A Systems Perspective, description is below:

With increasing globalisation, nurses and all health professionals benefit greatly from broad and international understandings of nursing and health systems. This module offers an opportunity for the student to learn about and critically analyse the main types of health care systems found around the world. The module will focus on the differences and distinctions between Irish and other global models of health care and nursing and how these are governed and administered within different health policy and financing contexts. The course content encourages students to systematically identify the advantages and disadvantages of different systems for health outcomes, quality, efficiency, equity and patient safety. Using Ireland as a case study, the module will provide students with an opportunity to engage with key debates about health service reform in the context of Irish health policy change. Students will gain perspectives on key areas of health systems through interaction with a range of speakers from both clinical practice and administrative and organisational bodies. Students will be encouraged to compare and contrast the Irish and European context with that of their home State/County.

Students study and stay in on-campus housing at UCD, a large, modern university located a short bus ride south of Dublin City Center.  In addition to course work, opportunities will be provided to explore a variety of cultural and historic venues in Dublin including Trinity College, Kilmainham Jail, St Partick's Cathedral, Dublin Castle and the Guinness Factory.  On the weekend, students will travel as a group to cultural and historic sites in Dublin and other locations in Ireland.
